What the iPhone 18 Pro Max LiDAR sensor does

The LiDAR sensor flex for iPhone 18 Pro Max measures the distance of objects with pulses of infrared light. The camera uses it to focus quickly in low light, Portrait mode uses it to separate the subject from the background, and AR and measuring apps rely on it too.

When to replace the iPhone 18 Pro Max LiDAR sensor

Replace it after a drop on the back, liquid damage or when camera error messages appear and AR features stop working. A new sensor with its flex restores these functions without changing the whole camera block.

Compatibility with iPhone 18 Pro Max

Compatible only with Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max. Not suitable for iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro or earlier models.
